Racine Zoo’s bear, Diamond, turns 30-years-old

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) – The Racine Zoo is celebrating a big birthday on Thursday, Feb. 4.

Andean bear Diamond is turning 30-years-old.

According to the Racine Zoo, Diamond was born in 1991 at the Cincinnati Zoo. Diamond came to the Racine Zoo in 2004.

The average lifespan of Andean bears in the wild is 25 years.

To celebrate his big birthday, the zoo says Diamond will ‘be partying with some birthday enrichment’ and will enjoy a special cake 10:30 a.m. People are encouraged to attend.

The zoo is also selling Diamond appeal. Money raised will help support the animals. Orders must be submitted by Feb. 7.
