RACINE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Racine County Sheriff’s Office responded to more than 20 accidents after freezing rain caused hazardous road conditions late Wednesday, Feb. 5 into Thursday, Feb. 6.

The incidents included multiple spinouts, jack-knifed semi-trucks and four sheriff’s office squad car crashes.

Authorities shut down both directions of I-94 for nearly four hours due to dangerous conditions. One man sustained a suspected broken leg after crashing into a squad car, according to RCSO. Two deputies were injured, one while assisting a sergeant over a center wall and another after slipping on ice.

No deputies were inside their squad cars when they were struck.

Road crews were notified of deteriorating conditions, and salt trucks were deployed.
