Racine County Sheriff responds to ICE raid rumors

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Trump administration carried out immigration raids over the weekend.

People claim they saw ICE agents in Racine.

County Board Supervisor Fabi Maldonado published the claims to Facebook, along with a photo of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection vehicle.

The post sparked a heated exchange between Maldonado and Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling.

The sheriff accused Maldonado of trying to get political attention.

"I was very hesitant to send that message in the first place," Maldonado said. "But when I get multiple calls about multiple sightings, people are afraid."

The sheriff said ICE did not request their assistance, but if they had, the Sheriff's Office would provide it because they took an oath to enforce the laws.
