Racine Popeyes employee accused of stealing, using customer's credit card left in drive-thru
RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Popeyes employee in Racine is facing charges after police say she stole a customer's credit card and used it at various stores.
Angenette Jones, 45, is facing charges of Theft by Acquisition of a Credit Card, Felony Personal ID Theft, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card.
According to the criminal complaint, a victim called the police to say that he mistakenly left his credit card at a Popeye's restaurant in Racine on September 16, 2017, and received a fraud alert from Chase Bank shortly after.
The victim's credit card was used to make a $53 purchase at Speedway on September 17. Surveillance video showed a woman dressed in a Popeye's uniform making the transaction.
On September 18, the victim's credit card was used to make over $800 in purchases from Walmart. Again, surveillance video showed a woman dressed in a Popeye's uniform making the transactions.
A purchase was also made for $121 at Sprint.
In total, almost a thousand dollars was spent on the victim's credit card without his consent.
Management at Popeye's confirmed to police that the victim's credit card was left at the drive-thru. Jones was working drive-thru that day. She was identified via surveillance video and taken into custody.
