WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin American Legion is furious over a report that the former director of the Tomah VA Medical Center was given a six-figure settlement.
Mario DeSanctis resigned in 2015 after allegations the hospital administered dangerous doses of painkillers. He was known as the Candy Man.
A new report shows he made a deal with the VA for a $163,000 payout.
Commander Laurel Clewell issued a statement saying, "This is an abomination and a high insult to veterans, their families, and the good people who work in our VA hospital system. Incompetence and one could argue, willful neglect should not go rewarded with a corporate-style golden parachute."
