MOUNT PLEASANT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Mount Pleasant Police are investigating after a safe was stolen from a home on Meacham Road. So far, they have no suspects in custody.
Chuck Haakma returned from a weekend away October 7 to find the sliding door to his home open, and his safe gone.
He says he had left the door unlocked, and that the safe was filled with $200,000 in cash and coins that he kept in a cabinet in a closet.
Haakma says most of the money was from relatives that had passed away.
He believes someone he knew stole the safe, and he feels violated.
“This is my castle, this is my home,” Haakma said. “I never anticipated this.”
He says nothing else was stolen and he has since opened a safety deposit box at a bank and is keeping his doors locked.
