Scams no more, resources from the Wisconsin BBB to help keep consumers safe

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin Better Business Bureau (BBB) wants you to know there's a resource at your disposal that should keep you safer from scams.

As part of "National Scam Survivor Day" the Wisconsin Better Business Bureau is highlighting their "BBB Scam Tracker" -- a prevention and reporting tool, along with the "Scam Survival Toolkit" a prevention guide to spot future scams.

On Thursday, May 8, the Wisconsin BBB and some local victims of scams spoke on the benefits of these resources.

"Scams effect people of all ages, genders, status and races," said Lisa Schiller from media relations of the Wisconsin BBB. "Scams do not discriminate, we know that for a fact."

"Thanks to the BBB, an organization we all need, they've helped me several times," said Tony Lupo, a consumer. "I want to thank them for being there for me."

Last year, $12.5 million were lost to fraud in the United States. That was up 25% from 2023.

The BBB says $21 million were saved last year thanks to their scam tracker.
