Sen. Johnson defends comments made about BLM protesters vs. Capitol rioters

WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Senator Ron Johnson is on the defensive after saying he would've been more worried about Antifa groups or Black Lives Matter protesters than those who were at the US Capitol riot.

"There is nothing racial about my comments," Sen. Johnson said. "Nothing whatsoever. This isn't about race, this is about riots. It's still pretty shocking that it would take what I consider completely innocuous comment and turn it into, you know, use the race card on me and say there's some kind of racist comment involved and that there was none."

on Thursday, Johnson described marchers at the Jan. 6 "Save America Rally" as people who "would never do anything to break a law."

The senator also shared his thoughts in a new op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal.
