Sheriff: Kidnapped Indiana girl found safe outside of Madison; three suspects arrested
DODGEVILLE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An 11-year-old girl who had been abducted in Indiana was found safe after a traffic stop Saturday in southwest Wisconsin, according to the Iowa County Sheriff's Office.
Sheriff Michael Peterson said in a release Sunday morning dispatchers took a call informing them a vehicle involved in an Indiana Silver Alert has been spotted at a Kwik Trip in Barneveld, which is about 30 miles southwest of Madison.
The Silver Alert has been issued following the kidnapping of an 11-year-old girl in Wells County, Indiana, which is south of Fort Wayne.
As sheriff's deputies headed toward Barneveld, Peterson said they learned the vehicle was in the Township of Dodgeville on U.S. Highway 18/151. The City of Dodgeville Police Department spotted the car, and both the police and sheriff's office were able to pull over the suspected car.
Peterson said three adults from South Dakota were arrested; they all had warrants for the suspected kidnapping of a minor in Wells County.
Those arrested were the ages of 27, 24 and 23. CBS 58 is not yet identifying them because they have not been formally charged.
Peterson said the girl was "safely removed" and will be able to return to her family.
The released stated the sheriff's office and the Wisconsin Department of Justice's Division of Criminal Investigation were handling the investigation.
The release did not state whether the girl or any of the suspects had known ties to Wisconsin.
