MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An organization called "I Will Not Die to Gun Violence" delivered 100 pairs of brand-new shoes to Carmen Middle and High School on Milwaukee's north side Monday, Sept. 21. 

The giveaway was part of a violence prevention campaign called "Stompin' Out Gun Violence," teaching students about danger, while at the same time using shoes to build their self-esteem. 

"Some students do not come to school because of their dress attire," said Monte Mabra, founder of I Will Not Die to Gun Violence. "Shoes can add that boost of confidence where they can come to the door and get the education that they need."

"Stop crime at the beginning, before it starts," said Attorney Michael Hupy, president of Milwaukee Crime Stoppers. "We want to teach the children not to resort to crime. The shoes are something extra that brings them in, that lets them be taught."

The flyer announcing Monday's shoe giveaway offered this slogan: "Stronger minds, higher self-esteem, safer communities."
