MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In celebration of Ice Cream Soda Day which takes place on Tuesday, June 20, Sprecher Brewing is offering a unique twist on the traditional ice cream soda with 20 fire-brewed craft soda flavors.
Director of Hospitality at Sprecher, Caroline O'Halloran, joined us to discuss some summertime flavor suggestions.
Sprecher's Bayshore Tap Room in the Town Center or at their Brewery's beer hall will be offering ice cream sodas with their award-winning root beer, also known as root beer floats, between the hours of 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.
For those interested in crafting their own sodas, Sprecher has the inside "scoop" on a simplified ice cream soda recipe:
- Chill a tall glass (16 -20 oz) in the freezer;
- Add two or three scoops of ice cream to the glass;
- Pour your favorite flavor of soda over the ice cream;
- Top with whipped cream and garnish with a maraschino cherry, mini marshmallows or sprinkles;
- Serve with a straw and spoon.
The modern recipe is a departure from Robert M. Green's original 1874 ice cream soda, which included soda syrup, half and half, soda water, ice cream and whipped cream.
