St. Francis High School coach arrested, 'released' from responsibilities by district; Suspect identified

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A public information officer for The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department (MCSO) confirmed that the suspect is Jeff Wuerl. 

The MCSO has no information on the circumstances leading to the Milwaukee Police Department's arrest of Wuerl but reported that he was brought in on felony charges of "repeated sexual assault of same child," on Sunday, May 25. 

According to MCSO, Wuerl posted a $10,000 cash bail the same day and was released the following morning on Monday, May 26. 


MILWAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- An investigation is underway following the arrest of a St. Francis High School Junior Varsity baseball coach. 

In a letter to families Tuesday, May 27, the St. Francis School District said the individual was taken into custody by Milwaukee police and released on bond. 

Upon learning of the arrest, the district says the coach was released from all coaching responsibilities and "provided notice of restricted access on school property and at school-sponsored events."

They say staff is fully cooperating with law enforcement. 

The letter goes on to say, in part:

"The District understands that situations like this can be concerning. Please know that the District will continue to monitor developments closely and provide any necessary support to our students and families."
