State inspectors check rides in preparation for 175th Wisconsin State Fair

WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Preparations are in full swing for the 175th Wisconsin State Fair. 

But before the fun begins, officials took time to inspect the fair's amusement rides. Nearly 40 rides have already been checked over the past two weeks and will be given daily inspections throughout the event. 

It's a necessary precaution to ensure visitors have a safe and fun time at the fair. 

"An event like Wisconsin State Fair draws the best mobile rides, it draws the best operators, and if they get a reputation for a safety issue, that travels with them. And other fairs, ours included, take a very serious look at their safety record headed into the fair," said Dan Hereth, secretary, Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services. 

New this year is the America 250 Wheel, which is 75 feet taller than the WonderFair Wheel featured at previous State Fairs.
