MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Public Schools students at Grantosa Avenue School took part in National Walk and Roll to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 8.

The event encouraged students to build healthy habits and learn about bicycle safety. Two "bike bus" loops took place between 8:30 and 9 a.m. with groups of students riding together to and from the school.

An outdoor classroom session took place later, where participants talked about safe biking practices and how to plan safe routes to school.

A bike rodeo for fourth graders closed out the special morning, giving kids a chance to practice their new skills on the playground.

According to MPS, the aim of the event was to encourage exercise, community connection and safe travel to school.
