The Milwaukee County Historical Society at 910 North Old World Third Street is telling the story of Summerfest through the years in a series of photos and artifacts on display now through September.
Organizers say the story of Summerfest is an authentic American tale of music, food, fun and popular culture.
The exhibit recalls a line-up of legendary artists, but also the commitment of civic leadership and the corporate community to bring this music festival to the legendary status it enjoys today.
Old time vendor displays will recall fanciful products of old that used to be the mainstay.
There is a focus on the diverse groups of artists and people the big gig brings together every summer.
Some exhibit goers marveled at the conditions of some of the original posters and banners and vintage memorabilia.
The tales of old had CBS 58's Michele McCormack digging into her own personal archives that include a recording of Mayor Henry Maier's Summerfest Polka.
She shared some of the song Thursday on the CBS 58 News at Noon.
Enjoy!
