NOW: Summerfest attendees celebrate final weekend and Fourth of July

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Festival goers dressed up in their best red, white and blue to celebrate the Fourth of July as well as Summerfest’s last weekend of the year.

For the first time since 2019, the Fourth of July fell on a Summerfest weekend.

“They never stop making this festival better,” said Jason Van Handal, a Summerfest attendee.

There are sights and sounds of Summerfest you don’t want to miss — from the music to the food and even the odd thing in between.

“I’m here personally to spread awareness. This is the Mecca of bratwurst,” said Steven Walicki, a Summerfest attendee on a mission to talk about the importance of brats.

On Thursday night, July 4, many people chose to come to Summerfest dressed and patriotic colors.

“It’s a perfect day for it. It’s really nice. We went to the parade this morning and it was just a perfect segway to come here to Summerfest. Here’s some music half some food and have some beers,” said Jim Liebenstein.

Festival goers say celebrating the nations independence with music food and all things Milwaukee just made sense.

“Usually on the Fourth of July, it was during the week so it’s cool that it’s on one of these weekends,” said Ethan O’Brien, a Summerfest attendee.

To some, the holiday is more than just to celebration. It’s a reminder that all walks of life can come together on these festival grounds.

“We’re in such a weird time right now with politics and stuff like that. It's cool people can come together and listen to music on a day celebrating the country,” said O’Brien.
