Suspect charged in connection to officer shooting near Fairmount and Green Bay Avenue, bond set for $1 million

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee County District Attorney's office issued criminal charges against 25-year-old Harrel J. Martin in connection to shooting at MPD officers and subsequently striking an officer. The incident occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Police received a domestic violence call and responded to Fairmount and Green Bay Avenue, near Lincoln Park. They arrived to an armed man, who began firing his gun at officers.
One officer was struck. The officer is 38-year-old Dan Morrell, who is recovering in the hospital.
Officers returned gunfire but didn't hit the 25-year-old suspect. The suspect barricaded himself in the home for several hours with four children inside. He later surrendered unarmed, and the four children were returned to safety.
Martin faces multiple charges, according to a criminal complaint. Charges include seven counts of Attempt First Degree Intentional Homicide, Use of a Dangerous Weapon, one count of Strangulation and Suffocation, Domestic Abuse, Infliction of Physical Pain or Injury, one count of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Infliction of Pain or Injury, and one count of Possession Firearm by a Felon.
If convicted, he could face up to 483 years, 6 months in prison, and could be fined up to $60,000.
