Suspect sought in shooting near state Capitol has ties to Milwaukee

MADISON, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police are searching for a suspect who shot someone on State Street in Madison, just down the hill from the state Capitol.

It happened in broad daylight, around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon during some kind of altercation.

The victim was conscious and alert and is being treated at a Madison hospital.

Later in the night, around 10 p.m., fans attending the Badgers basketball game were told to stay inside the Kohl Center after the game wrapped up.

It turns out a reported sighting of the suspect turned out to be false and fans were allowed to leave the arena.

The suspect was identified by police in a press conference Wednesday as 40-year-old Lamar Jefferson, whose last known address is in Milwaukee.

Police say he is considered armed and dangerous.
