CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: Team Appleby wants to drive, chip and putt way to Augusta
WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- "Alright, rock 'n roll, guys. Here we go!" dad, Kelly Appleby, says.
You might say golf and the name Appleby go together like birdie and putt.
"Being able to go to the regionals with my siblings is something that is great and really cool," says Lola Appleby.
"Way to hold the finish!" Kelly says.
"It's a lot of happiness just because I guess we're all one Team Appleby," says Felix Appleby.
Meet 15-year-old Lola, 13-year-old Felix, 11-year-old Cici, and 7-year-old Ruby.
"Nice shot, Lolo!" Kelly says.
"Five for five," Felix says.
"Cici!" Kelly says, "Great one." "Good one, Ruby!"
All qualified for the regional finals of the Drive, Chip and Putt competition. One step from the finals at Augusta National, home of the Masters.
"All my siblings are very good golfers," Cici Appleby says. "And I think that we could all make it to Augusta."
"I've never been to the second one," says Ruby Appleby. "Also, like all four of us being there, like one of us might make it."
Like a good drive? Lola, as the oldest, sets the pace, While Cici hates to lose the most.
"How is she practicing compared to me?" Felix says. "How is she doing this compared to me? So, everything that she does kind of gotta watch."
"Cici's very competitive," Lola says.
"We do a lot of competitions," says Cici. "Like just chipping. And I always like to win."
And Ruby has three great role models.
"I look up to them a lot," Ruby Appleby says. "Like how they do stuff, too. Like so I can do it like them."
On Sept. 12, at Whistling Straits, Team Appleby aims to punch a ticket, or tickets, to Augusta.
"It would mean a lot," Lola says. "I've tried for a lot of years to make it. Been close a couple of times, so we'll see how it goes."
