Dr. Kimo Ah Yun elected president of Marquette University
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- After Wednesday night, Oct. 30's rally in Green Bay, former President Donald Trump is taking his campaign to voters in New Mexico. Meanwhile in Milwaukee, a Trump supporter from Congress met with hometown veterans.
"I could not be more proud than to have you guys and gals as my brothers and sisters in arms," said Congressman Brian Mast.
Republican Congressman Brian Mast of Florida is an army veteran who now chairs Donald Trump's veterans campaign.
Thursday, Mast hosted a roundtable with veterans at the War Memorial Center and talked about some of the ideas he's discussed with the former president.
One idea is putting veteran volunteers with the proper background in charge of reducing the backlog of pension and claims issues.
"Veterans like to help fellow veteran, so let's give them a chance to be a part of something that will give a real look to your pension and claims issue, instead of, here's your stack of paperwork, all right, no and we'll wait for them to come back through the process," said Mast.
Congressman Mast says one of the most common concerns expressed to him by families that are considering a military career for their sons or daughters is proper training for combat.
