MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- An 18-year-old man was killed, and another was seriously injured, following a vehicle collision with a parked excavator in Milwaukee, according to police.

The crash occurred near 51st and Silver Spring shortly before midnight on Friday, May 23.

Authorities report the car struck the excavator around 11:55 p.m., resulting in fatal injuries to one passenger. The driver, also 18, was transported to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and later arrested.

Police believe that high speeds were a contributing factor to the incident.

Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
