'That man took my baby's life': Family devastated after man fatally shot on Milwaukee's east side

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — A family is speaking out after the unthinkable. On Monday morning, Feb. 2, 50-year-old Angelo Nelson was shot and killed in his apartment complex on Milwaukee's east side.

"He wanted everyone to be happy he was the main attraction," said Willie Donald, Angelo Nelson's father.

On Tuesday, Angelo Nelson's parents scrolled through photo's as they remembered their loving son.

"He was funny, he was a people person, he loved people," said Patricia Donald, Angelo Nelson's mother.

According to Milwaukee police, Nelson was found dead in the stairwell of his apartment complex on Ogden and Astor Monday morning.

"Somebody decided that they were God and that they were going to take my babies life and they took him and they took a piece of my heart," said Donald.

Police say Nelson got into an argument when the 31-year-old suspect shot and killed him.

"He got killed coming down the stairs to wash his clothes. He thought he was going to go downstairs. He was starting a new job today," said Donald.

The fact that he got into an argument shocked friends and family.

"No not confrontational at all if anything he's going to cool the situation down not hype it up," said Terry Jackson, Angelo Nelson's friend.

"He wanted everything to be smooth, he didn't like arguments," said Donald.

Nelson's mother says without her son, their lives will never be same.

"That man took my baby's life, that's my baby," said Donald.

The family has identified the shooter as a man who lives in the building.

Police say criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
