The Avett Brothers announced as a Summerfest 2023 headliner

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Avett Brothers have been announced as the first headlining artist for the 'BMO Pavilion with Miller Lite' on Friday, June 23. This year's festival will feature nine headlining acts at the BMO Pavilion.

The Avett Brothers have been making music since 2000 and have been nominated for three Grammy Awards. Their 2009 major label debut, "I and Love and You," reached #16 on the Billboard Top 200 and garnered critical acclaim. The band has since released several other successful albums and singles, including "True Sadness," which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top Albums chart in 2016.

The band was also the subject of the 2017 documentary "May It Last: A Portrait of The Avett Brothers," which chronicles the process of writing "True Sadness" and was co-directed by Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio. The band's newest album, "The Third Gleam," debuted at #1 on Billboard's Americana / Folk Albums chart in Aug. 2020.

Currently on tour throughout the U.S., the band has also been the subject of a recent musical called "Swept Away," which premiered in Jan. 2022.

Tickets for reserved seating to The Avett Brothers' performance will be available starting Friday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m.

The tickets can be purchased online via Summerfest.com and Ticketmaster.com, or in person at the Summerfest Box Office. Each ticket purchase includes admission to Summerfest on the day of the performance.
