MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Some Milwaukee teens are making their voices heard with the start of the Milwaukee County Youth Commission's 2025 term.
The meeting took place on Wednesday, Jan. 15. The new commissioners took an oath of office that was administered by Chief Judge Carl Ashley.
The Milwaukee County Youth Commission has 20 members, ages 14-18. They will work to advance the interests of Milwaukee's young people, by making recommendations about policy and budget decisions to the county's board of supervisors.
Members on the commission say they are excited to serve.
"Just seeing the commission grow, we have so many districts seeing so many youth representatives in those districts. I know we have an amazing group of people, I cannot wait to see what they do, I've met a lot of them already, I'm sure we're going to make some great changes in Milwaukee County," saif Marianna Taylor, co-chair with Milwaukee County Youth Commission.
The commission meets monthly, except for August.
One member serves as each of the 18 districts. Two members serve as co-chairs. Commissioners each serve two-year terms.
