Good chance of seeing the Northern Lights Thursday and Friday nights
Get your cameras ready! The Northern Lights will likely be visible tonight and Friday night. The signal for the auroras is much strong for tonight than Friday night but should be strong enough to be seen both nights.
While the sky will be clear of clouds tonight, we are expected a layer of wildfire smoke which may filter the auroras a bit.
Speaking of smoke, wildfire danger will be elevated across southern Wisconsin on Friday. Warm temps in the low 80s combined with low relative humidity, breezy southwest winds, and very dry grass, brush, etc. around the area would cause any fires that spark to spread quickly.
The latest drought monitor shows abnormally dry conditions at minimum for all of southern WI with a few more areas of moderate drought popping up along the WI/IL border and near Waupun.
The fire danger and summer-like warmth will only last for a day. A cold front moves through dry on Friday night, dropping temps into the low 60s Saturday and upper 50s Sunday. Can't rule out a few isolated showers on Saturday, but the best chance for rain this weekend arrives on Sunday.
