'There's a tremendous need:' Bucks Forward Khris Middleton sorts food with Hunger Task Force as part of 12 days of Khrismas initiative
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee Bucks Forward Khris Middleton is once again kicking off his '12 days of Khrismas' initiative.
The Hunger Task Force hosted Middleton for a holiday food sort and healthy breakfast cooking demonstration on Sunday, Dec. 1.
Dozens of community volunteers sorted 6,000 pounds of food.
"Soups, cereals, canned fruits and vegetables, all the healthy items we need to stock local food pantries," said Matt King, CEO of Hunger Task Force.
It's part of Milwaukee Bucks Forward Khris Middleton's '12 days of Khristmas.'
"It's about giving back to our communities that we are involved in that support us in our toughest times," said Middleton.
Matt King is the CEO of Hunger Task Force.
"This past month we served more than 50,000 people across all of our programs that's a 30% increase from the same time last year," King explained.
This past year, Hunger Task Force distributed more than 10.3 million pounds of food.
"Volunteer events like this, donations from the community are critical for us to meet that need right now," said King.
Other than keeping pantries stocked Hunger Task Force and Middleton share one main focus, getting healthy food into local pantries.
"Getting good balanced pasta meals, spaghetti meals but it's definitely important to put good things into your body," said Middleton.
Kings says there's a tremendous need and partnering with stars like Middleton makes all the difference.
"Yeah, it moves the needle. Khris put the word out and now we have all the volunteers we need to get this essential work done," said King.
However, Middleton says the real credit goes to the volunteers.
"They're the real heroes that are here supporting these people supporting this factory, doing everything they can to help out," said Middleton.
