MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milk is a difficult thing for food pantries to keep on hand because it needs to stay cold and expires quicker than other food. But a donation of more than 67,000 shelf-stable milk cartons will help families in need have access to dairy.
In a partnership with Roundy's, Kemps made a delivery of chocolate milks to Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
The milk is ultra-high temperature pasteurized and stays good without refrigeration for up to a year.
It comes at a time when more people are asking for help putting dinner on the table.
"Lines are growing. As inflation occurs, it increases the cost of living for everybody, it increases the cost of purchasing food for us, which is why a donation like this is so important," said Scott Marshall, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin.
The shelf-stable "Giving Cow" milks will give smaller pantries that may not be able to refrigerate items the chance to serve families where they're most comfortable asking for that extra help.
