FOX POINT, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Police are investigating a terrifying case of fraud in Fox Point.
Donna Arel says three armed men came to her home while she was on the phone with a man who claimed he was with the FBI.
She had called the number left in a suspicious voicemail claiming there was a problem with her social security card and there was a warrant out for her arrest.
Arel says she wasn’t taking the man on the phone very seriously until he asked if his “agents” had shown up.
She says the men in her driveway had guns, badges and looked professional.
“They’ve put a scare in me the rest of my life,” Arel said.
No one spoke, and the men soon left, but it was enough for Arel to listen to what the man on the phone wanted her to do.
“If I’d hung up would these people have taken me or would they have shot me right here in my driveway?” she said. “I did not know.”
The scammer instructed Arel to buy $7,100 worth of Target gift cards, so she did. Then she shared the card codes with him.
According to the police report, the cards were spent in Targets in New York, New Jersey, Florida and California.
We called the fraudulent number. It was disconnected.
