MANITOWOC, Wis. (WFRV) -- Three people have died after a crash in Manitowoc County. The Sheriff's Office says Deputies responded to a two vehicle crash around 3:36 p.m. on Thursday on I-43 south of County Road C in the Town of Newton.
Further investigation shows that a 40-year-old man from rural Whitelaw was operating a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck driving southbound on I-43. The truck crossed the median and collided with a northbound 2001 Ford Windstar van being operated by a 62-year-old man from Manitowoc. A 33-year-old female was a passenger in the van.
All three were trapped and had to be extricated by the Jaws of Life. The driver of the truck and passenger in the van were pronounced dead at the scene. Theda Star transported the driver of the van to Theda Clark Medical Center, but he later died from his injuries.
The names of the victims will be released through the Manitowoc County Coroner's Office after family members have been notified.
The crash remains under investigation by the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office, Wisconsin State patrol, and the Manitowoc County Coroner's Office.
The interstate was closed from about 3:40 p.m. until 7:45 p.m.
