Truck driver taken to hospital after crashing into Amtrak train
COLUMBUS, Wis. (AP) — Dodge County authorities say the crossing gate arms were down and the lights were flashing when a truck driver crashed into an Amtrak passenger train in south-central Wisconsin.
None of the 300 passengers and 11 crew members on the Chicago-bound Empire Builder was hurt, but the truck driver was taken to a hospital. His condition hasn't been released. The crash happened about five miles east of the Amtrak station in Columbus, Wisconsin, shortly before 2 p.m. Friday.
A sheriff's news release says the semi began to skid and maneuver before it struck the third and fourth cars on the eastbound train, which consisted of two engines and 11 passenger and baggage cars.
The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Sheriff's Office and the Amtrak Police.
