Turn heartbreak into helpful healing during Achy Breaky Bugs fundraiser 💔🦎

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue

NEENAH, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Don't tell your heart, your achy, breaky heart: touch base with J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue instead.

The Neenah-based animal rescue is offering a creative way to channel post-breakup feelings with its Achy Breaky Bugs event on Valentine’s Day.

For $5, donors can name a bug after an ex, which will then become a snack for one of the shelter’s animals. For $25, a frozen rodent can be named and fed to a reptile or amphibian, offering a way to raise funds while having fun with ex-inspired karma.

The event will be livestreamed on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 5 p.m. on Facebook, so people who participate can watch their donation in action. Submissions are open until Monday, Feb. 13 at 5 p.m., and can be made online or at the rescue center.

J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue says the aim of the fundraiser is to transform heartbreak into something positive. While the event may be funny, its purpose is serious: supporting the care of exotic animals, including food, medical needs and housing.

Whether dealing with an ex who was a bit of a pest or just looking to join in the fun, folks are invited to donate and make a difference.
