Missing 7-year-old boy from Two Rivers found dead in river

UPDATE: 12/1/24, 12:01 p.m. - Two Rivers Police say the body of Baer was recovered Sun. morning from the West Twin River. 

Police say the 7-year-old autistic boy was playing outside when his parent lost sight of him on Sat. Nov. 30th.

Sun. morning the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources was able to identify a possible location, in 5 to 6 feet of water, for what was believed to be Jacob.

A body was recovered from that location and was positively identified as Jacob Baer.

Officials say this tragic event is a reminder of how dangerous the ice can be on our waterways, especially this time of year when it is very thin.


TWO RIVERS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A missing child alert was issued in Manitowoc County for 7-year-old Jacob Baer on Saturday, Nov. 30. 

Two Rivers Police say Sat. night they located several items believed to belong to Baer in the water of the West Twin River. 

Officials say early morning on Sun. Dec. 1st the Wisconsin DNR identified an area of interest in the water near those items during their search. 

Baer is described as a 7-year-old White male, around 3'5 and about 56 lbs. Baer has blue eyes and shaggy blonde hair. 

He was last seen wearing a black jacket with green on the hood, a black and gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and size 13 RealTree camouflage boots, according to police. 

Baer went missing from Veteran's Park in Two Rivers. He was last seen on Saturday, Nov. 30 around 4:36 p.m. 

The Two Rivers Police Department is continuing to ask the public to stay away from the West Twin River, City Marina and Veterans Park as  K-9 units, drones, and emergency personnel are working the areas. 

The Coast Guard Ice Search and Rescue Team on the West Twin River and the Wisconsin National Guard are also providing aerial searching with a helicopter.
