Union Grove man charged with stealing safe containing $10,000 from grandparents

UNION GROVE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Union Grove man is charged after allegedly stealing a safe from his grandparents.

Todd Kerkman, 20, is charged with Theft - Moveable Property and Criminal Damage to Property.

According to the criminal complaint, a couple reported to authorities that the safe they kept in their closet was missing. Inside the safe were cash and items that had a value of at least $10,000.

The safe was kept at their home in Union Grove.

One of the victims told police that their grandson, Kerkman, was standing in the kitchen when they were talking about their safe before they left for Florida.

Kerman allegedly told his grandparents that he did not steal the safe.

He later turned himself into police and admitted to stealing the safe and dumping it in East Troy.
