UPDATE: Fond du Lac Sheriff's Deputies Chase Vehicle of Runaways Nearly 30 Miles at Speeds over 100 mph
On Wednesday May 18, at approximately 12:15 AM, a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a westbound vehicle for a speed violation on State Highway 23 near County Highway UU in the Town of Empire. The vehicle did not stop or obey the deputies signal to stop.
The vehicle continued westbound on Highway 23 and then turned northbound onto US Highway 151. The deputy pursued the vehicle with emergency lights and siren activated. While traveling northbound on US Highway 151, the car reached a speed of 105 MPH.
The vehicle kept driving north into Calumet County where it turned northbound on US Highway 55.
During the chase, Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office learned that juveniles were possibly involved or in the vehicle. After learning this information, deputies of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s office reduced their speeds and backed off from the suspect vehicle.
Ultimately the vehicle left the roadway on Highway 55 south of Faro Springs Road in Calumet County. Two female teens, who were reported runaways from the Menasha area, left the car and were apprehended and later turned over to Menasha Police Department.
A 16-year-old male runaway, also from the Menasha area, and the believed driver, fled the scene on foot.
The male teen was taken into custody in Calumet County Wednesday morning around 8:30 AM.
The chase lasted 27.5 miles.
