JANESVILLE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- UW Health has launched a new Med-Flight base in Janesville. This expansion will enable emergency teams to transport ill or injured patients from any hospital to another that better suits their needs.

The new location will improve UW Health's access to southeastern Wisconsin, including Milwaukee.

"Faster response times are important because there are many things that we do that are time sensitive," said Dr. Andrew Cathers, medical director of UW Health Med Flight.

He added, "The patient's critical condition does have an element of time that is important. ... [This] also allows us to get to the bedside faster and start providing care to the patient in a faster manner."

The Janesville base will join two other Med-Flight locations in Wisconsin, one in Mineral Point and the other in Portage.
