CBS 58

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- In federal court Wednesday morning, Milwaukee community activist Vaun Mayes agreed to plead guilty to a single count of using a cellphone to encourage people to participate in a riot.

This dates back to August of 2016, when a deadly police shooting led to rioting in Milwaukee's Sherman Park neighborhood.

Originally, Mayes faced several charges. Under the charge that remains after Wednesday's hearing, Mayes could face up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

His sentencing date is Jan. 22.
