Veterans services expand with new satellite office in Milwaukee
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Two Milwaukee leaders joined us to discuss expanded services for veterans and African American residents on Thursday, Feb. 19.
Otis Winstead, president and CEO of Great Lakes Dryhootch, and Melissa Buford, director of the Office of African American Affairs, joined us Thursday to talk about a new satellite office operating inside the OAAA building.
They said that Great Lakes Dryhootch approaches services holistically, focusing on advocacy and support for underserved veterans. The organization provides peer support and connects veterans with resources.
The city created the Office of African American Affairs by ordinance to promote equal opportunities in employment, education, job training, housing, health care, voting rights and business ownership.
The OAAA houses government agencies and nonprofits in one location to give residents centralized access to services.
