OCONOMOWOC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A major scare for two parents in Oconomowoc after their 5-year-old daughter was nearly hit by a school bus after it dropped her off.

Anthony Birch, the young girl's father, says it was horrifying to witness, and that a split second could have changed his family's life forever.

Birch says he will never forget watching as his daughter's quick reflexes saved her life, calling the bus driver's actions unacceptable.

Birch's daughter is a student within the Oconomowoc Area School District, and he shared his concerns for his daughter's safety and students, demanding answers.

The district sent out a statement to families Thursday morning saying safety is their priority. The district confirmed they've been speaking with the transportation provider in this case. which is Go Riteway.

We called the company, and they hung up, but the district says, "Go Riteway shared that the bus driver involved will receive additional safety training before returning to bus route duties."

Holding their daughter close, Birch says he wants to make sure another scare like this doesn’t happen to another family or child.

This isn't the first bus scare in Wisconsin this month. A little over three weeks ago, a child was hit and killed by a school bus in Waukesha County. This Monday, the same day this incident happened, another bus driver was arrested for driving while under the influence with students on board.

Bus safety is becoming a major concern for parents in the area, and this family says they will continue to voice their concerns at upcoming school board meetings.
