WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A bus driver in Waukesha is being hailed as a hero for rescuing two kids from freezing cold conditions.
Nicole Chamberlain was out driving her route like any other day, when she saw a 6-year-old boy and a 2-year-old girl walking alone. It was 18 degrees outside at the time, and the little girl was just in a shirt, boots and diaper.
Chamberlain pulled her bus over and let the kids on to warm up while she called police.
She wrapped her coat around the little girl. The kids told her they were looking for their grandmother.
"It's amazing how coincidental this was, because my pickup I went five minutes early, so I was on the road five minutes earlier than I am," Chamberlain said. "If I went at my normal time, I never would have seen them."
Police did find grandma, who said the kids wandered off from home a few blocks away. Officials say they won't be recommending charges.
As for Nicole, she says she just did what any mother would do.
