MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Friends and family of Kuvina Hickles held a vigil and balloon release for her on Wednesday, Feb. 14.
The 28-year-old was shot and killed early Saturday near 48th and Fairmount. Police say they believe the shooter is a 27-year-old man. He is in custody.
This afternoon, her friends and family prayed and sang, while remembering a woman they said wanted to help everyone she could.
Kuvina's mother says her daughter lived with the accused shooter and was the victim of domestic violence.
"She did her all to make sure if somebody needed something, she gave it to them. She worked hard; she was going to school for nursing. And he took it all away. But she'll always live in my heart and her friends," said Carry Hickles, mother of Kuvina.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office is still reviewing the case before filing charges against the shooter.
