Walk for 1 in 100 in October to support congenital heart disease patients

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Dr. Scott Cohen, an adult congenital cardiologist, joined us Wednesday, Sept. 30 to talk about the Adult Congenital Heart Association's Walk for 1 in 100, taking place Saturday, Oct. 10 at Greenfield Park.

The walk aims to raise awareness and funds for congenital heart disease, which affects about 1 in 100 babies born, according to ACHA.

Advances in treatment mean more people with the condition are living into adulthood, Cohen said, but many still need lifelong follow-up care, since the condition isn't fully resolved by childhood surgery alone.

The Herma Heart Institute, which Cohen said runs Wisconsin's largest ACHD program, is partnering with ACHA on the local walk. Check-in begins at 9 a.m., with the walk starting at 10 a.m.

CBS 58's own Alex Corradetti and Michael Schlesinger are scheduled to emcee.
