MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Murals throughout Milwaukee's Walker's Point neighborhood are highlighting the history and culture of the city's Latino community during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Across from Acosta Middle School on the south side, one mural pays tribute to the Afro-Latino community and highlights education as a path forward.

"El Soñador" by artist Mauricio Ramírez, depicts a young Latin American woman in colors drawn from flags across Latin America and the Caribbean, celebrating the region's diversity.

Milwaukee artist Reynaldo Hernández, who has worked in the city's Latino art community for more than 50 years, painted the "Landmarks Mural" on the exterior of the United Community Center in 1989.

Many Latinos settled on Milwaukee's south side after working in the city's factories and Wisconsin's agricultural industry, and organizations including Latino Arts and the United Community Center continue working to preserve that history for younger generations.

Latino Arts is marking its 40th anniversary this year.
