Waukesha County officials: Woman dead in multi-vehicle crash in village of Summit

WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A 20-year-old Waukesha woman was killed in a crash in the village of Summit on Friday, Jan. 5.

According to the Village of Summit Police Department, the crash happened around 12:35 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 67 (also known as Summit Avenue) and Genesee Lake Road.

Officials say a vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 67 had slowed or stopped in order to turn onto Genesee Lake Road. A second vehicle, also traveling southbound on Highway 67, collided with the rear of the turning vehicle.

The collision, according to police, propelling the turning vehicle into the northbound lane of traffic where it was struck by another vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant of the turning vehicle was ejected and succumbed to her injuries.

The vehicle traveling northbound had two occupants in it -- a 56-year-old woman and her 20-year-old daughter -- and both were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle which initially struck the turning vehicle -- a 19-year-old woman -- was not injured.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.

An investigation is ongoing.
