Waukesha County to host Project Homeless Connect, offering services to residents experiencing homelessness
WAUKESHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Project Homeless Connect, an event aimed at providing essential services and resources, is returning to Waukesha County on Thursday, Sept. 26. The one-day event aims to assist residents who are currently unhoused, providing key services under one roof at the Carroll University Campus Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A variety of services will be available, with nearly 25 different resources to be available, ranging from health screenings such as flu shots and vision tests to benefits assistance and connections to community nonprofits, serving as a comprehensive platform for those in need.
Project Homeless Connect began in 2004 in San Francisco and was introduced to Waukesha County in 2019.
Krystina Kohler with United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County noted in a press release, "This event brings dignity to the forefront by pairing together a volunteer to each guest, breaking down stigmas people may have about homelessness."
Somewhere between 500 to 700 people facing homelessness were helped by Milwaukee County's Project Homeless Connect event on Thursday, Oct. 19.
