WAUKESHA -- Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser, the 12-year-old girls charged in the stabbing of their 12-year-old classmate, appeared in Waukesha County court Wednesday. 12-year-old Morgan Geyser will have a mental evaluation to determine her competency to stand trial.

Geyser's Attorney Anthony Cotton said, \"A doctor gets appointed, a doctor will do an evaluation, and the doctor will conclude whether the child I represent is competent.\"

Cotton says the U.S. Supreme Court has already recognized that there is a difference between the brain of a child and an adult. 

Attorney Joseph Smith Jr., representing Anissa Weier, has a smiliar argument adding he will eventually get his client into a juvenile court room. Smith also requested the evidence the state has against his client.

Both 12-year-old suspects are accused of luring the young victim into the woods for a game, stabbing her 19 times and leaving her for dead. 

Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier both face a charge of attempted first degree intentional homicide in adult court where Waukesha District Attorney Brad Schimel wants to keep them.

If convicted, both girls face up to 60 years in jail.
