Wauwatosa School District celebrates Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Award winners

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three students, a teacher and an administrator from the Wauwatosa School District have been recognized as recipients of 2023 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Awards.

Wauwatosa East High School seniors Vivienne Andersen, Audrey Catlin and Olivia Close received the Student Excellence Scholarship, while Wauwatosa West senior Fabiana Chacon Morales was awarded the Student Initiative Scholarship.

Each student will receive a $10,000 scholarship for college expenses.

Ms. Rachel Kumferman, a school social worker at McKinley Elementary School, was named a Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Teacher Fellow, earning her and the school a $6,000 grant each.

Washington Elementary School Principal Mr. Joe Russell received the Principal Leadership Award, which includes a $6,000 grant for both him and the school.

The honorees were among 306 Wisconsin students, teachers and principals recognized by the Kohl Foundation, which has awarded over $34 million since its inception in 1990. Recipients are selected by a statewide committee comprising civic leaders and representatives from various educational associations.
