Wauwatosa School Board adopts mask mandate

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wauwatosa School Board adopted a set of Covid recommendations at a board meeting Monday, Aug. 9. 

Board members approved 7-0 to implement a sliding scale system that increases requirements for things like masks as Covid cases go up in the school.

Masks will be required for students and staff when school starts Sept. 1. 

Some parents opposed the mask mandate, telling board members those decisions should be left to parents.

Others asked the district to mandate Covid vaccines for staff members.

Other schools are discussing masking for the upcoming 2021-22 school year.

The Whitefish Bay School Board voted to require masks for all people while inside district facilities at a special meeting on Tuesday, August 3. 

The Issue of masks sparked heated debates at the end of last school year.
