Waves of rain and storms likely on Thursday

After a little light rain in spots early this morning, we've been mainly cloudy with some patchy drizzle throughout southeast Wisconsin today. The mainly dry conditions will change as we head into Thursday as rounds of rain and embedded storms are expected throughout the day.

The first round will move in before sunrise and continue for much of the Thursday morning commute. Rain may be moderate to heavy at times, especially with any storms.

Showers will become lighter mid to late morning before the next wave of rain pushes in around midday.

There won't be much of a lull between the midday round and the round that moves in for the pm/evening commute. Remember to turn your headlights on tomorrow whenever you're traveling in this rain.

Showers look to taper off a bit in the evening, but some isolated, very light rain can't be ruled out heading into Thursday night. Overall we're expecting between .50-1" of rain for most of the area with up to 1.25" north of Milwaukee and in any spots that see thunderstorms. Lower end totals are expected in the far SE corner of the state.

A few additional light showers and rumbles of thunder are expected Friday ahead of a very strong cold front that will send temps into a free fall later in the day. High temps will peek in the upper 60s Friday morning and drop into the 30s and 40s by Friday evening.

Temps stay primarily in the 40s for highs this weekend into next week with nighttime temps in the 20s area-wide. Download the CBS 58 Ready Weather App for the full forecast.
