MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Milwaukee's Common Council approved a resolution that could impact future expansion plans for We Energies.
Council members passed a resolution authorizing the city attorney to intervene in a request from We Energies to build new natural gas power plants.
The company has requested to build a 1,100-megawatt system in Oak Creek and another in the Town of Paris.
Documents state these projects would require a more than $2 billion investment and could have major impacts on future electric rates, gas emissions, and grid reliability.
The resolution passed Tuesday allows the city to get involved legally with next steps for the project.
Resolution documents state that the city has an interest in clean and affordable energy for its operations and for the community as part of Milwaukee's Climate and Equity Plan.
Public comments will likely be taken up on the matter in the future.
