'We will wait and see': Barnes holds off on final election night speech

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Democratic U.S. Senate Candidate Mandela Barnes decided against making a speech to end his campaign event on Tuesday night with his race against Republican incumbent Ron Johnson too close to call.

"We always knew this race would be incredibly close," said Barnes campaign spokesperson Maddy McDaniel in a press release early Wednesday morning. "No matter what anyone says, we are committed to making sure every vote is counted. We will wait and see what the Wisconsin voters have decided after all their voices are heard."

Sen. Johnson did choose to address the crowd early Wednesday morning. He did not declare a victory but said "the race is over" and expects to officially declare victory later on Wednesday.
